Lindsey Blair and Bobby Gilles recap and discuss Pastor Travis McGowen's sermon from Hebrews 1:4

Episode Transcription

Lindsey: Welcome to the Midweek Checkup. My name is Lindsey Blair and I’m joined by Bobby The Truth Gilles. This past Sunday Pastor Travis McGowen preached from Hebrews One verse Four in our series Breaking The Silence.

Bobby: Travis taught that Jesus is better than the angels because of what he became, because of his superior work, and because of his superior inheritance. And for anyone who missed the sermon or needs help remembering, let’s do the weekly recap:

Lindsey: Pastor Travis began by saying Jesus is better than the angels because of what he became. He planned on being born in Bethlehem to fulfill a promise he made to his people and it actually happened.  He planned on being born to a virgin teenage girl because of a promise that he made to his people and it actually happened. Christianity hinges on a fact.  God actually became human, and he lived in a real place at a real time.

Bobby: And Jesus is superior to the angels because of his superior work. The angels are not worshiped by Christians because they have not done work worthy of our worship.  But Jesus has.  We resist the temptation to make anyone or anything created by God a substitute for God himself.  Whatever work a servant of the Lord has done, what the Lord Jesus has done for you is better.  He speaks to you.  He made you.  He sustains you.  He died for you.  And he lives for you.

Lindsey: Finally, Jesus is better because of his superior inheritance. He has been raised from the dead and now, he is exalted and is seated at the right hand of God. And he has inherited a name above all names — an inheritance that he has rightly earned.  Jesus deserves all that is rightly his.  And that is all our worship and our sacred confession that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Bobby: This coming Sunday we’ll begin a new series called Matchless: The Wonder Of God’s Word. We’ll pick up where we left off in Hebrews 1. And in Bible Fellowship we’ll discuss Psalm One-forty-six together. Join us, and bring a friend.
