Episode Transcription

Bobby: Welcome to the Midweek Checkup. My name is Bobby Gilles and I’m joined by Lindsey Blair. This past Sunday, Pastor Travis McGowen preached the second half of Psalm One-Eighteen.

Lindsey: Pastor Travis taught that the gratefulness of one kindles the future faith of many. If you missed the sermon or need a quick recap, you’re in luck. Here we go!

Bobby: Travis began by saying that the gratefulness of one kindles the future faith of many by providing clarity to the place of our pain. The psalmist was in a place where he could see that the Lord had brought pain into his life but at the same time, the Lord kept him alive. Time and distance can provide clarity to where we have been and where the Lord has been all along. The psalmist was able to recognize that a period of rejection was followed by deliverance and exaltation.

Lindsey: The gratefulness of one also kindles the future faith of many through the commitments that we make. The psalmist makes a commitment to enter into the gates of the righteous and give thanks to God, with a renewed energy and purpose because of what God has done. The psalmist looked for an opportunity to share what God had done. Other people need to see and hear that the Lord does indeed bless his people.

Bobby: Finally, the gratefulness of one kindles the future faith of many by stirring our hearts to pray for others. The psalmist, with others, turned to God in prayer, saying, “Save us. Give us success.” Christianity is a faith that takes an individual and places them within a family. When one person experiences goodness from the hand of the Lord, this act of God is the means that others can also experience goodness in due time. When God answers our prayers the Holy Spirit will move us to look outward to other people and begin praying for them.

Lindsey: This coming Sunday we’ll begin a new series called Soul Anchor, as we dive into Hebrews chapters five and six. This series will equip us with a developmental understanding of faith, help us understand that the goal of faith is maturity in Christ, and it will magnify the superiority of Christ’s work.

Bobby: And in Sunday Bible Fellowship we’ll discuss the opening chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian church, and what it means for us today. Join us and bring a friend.
